Let's Make a DOS BBS in an offensively modern way [video]
- Solvency 3y agoMost software today is built as "offensively" as possible.
- gmuslera 3y agoWe could make a DOS BBS in an even more offensive, wrong, and postmodern way using a ChatGPT prompt like the one in https://sharegpt.com/c/ICZsSl7 https://sharegpt.com/c/ICZsSl7 This is badly overkill. I used to run my own BBS with several nodes in the early 90s in a 80386 with 2Mb of RAM if I remember correctly. I suppose that going all the way to Kubernetes, cloud and all the technological layers there so on it somewhat offensive in the resource consumption side. But even this is dwarfed by the ChatGPT approach.

- bronikowski 3y agoThis is funny because I'm actually building (for fun only) a BBS-over-tcp-socket for use with my C64's WiFi modem. Yesterday I got a "search engine" going and transferred some games over XMODEM. It's two files. I came back home and saw this video, I fainted when he mentioned k8s.
- johnea 3y agoWhy go half ass with DOS? Go full retro and build your BBS with CP/M... https://landley.net/history/mirror/cpm/history.html https://landley.net/history/mirror/cpm/history.html If you're going to use a 1980 8-bit OS, why use M$'s crippled version? Use the real thing...
