Nirmatrelvir for Vaccinated or Unvaccinated Adult Outpatients with Covid-19
- Jimmc414 3y agoConclusions: “The time to sustained alleviation of all signs and symptoms of Covid-19 did not differ significantly between participants who received nirmatrelvir–ritonavir (Paxlovid) and those who received placebo" - This Pfizer funded study concluded in July 2022 and was publicly released last month. [0] [1] - Pfizer's press release in late 2021 reported 89% reduction in hospitalization or death compared to placebo. [2] - In December 2022, the US Government spent another $2 billion on Paxlovid bringing the total spent to 12.6 billion.[3] [0] https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2309003#tab-contributors https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2309003#tab-cont... - SlightlyLeftPad 3y agoPersonally, I was looking forward to never talking about this topic again. My mind melted during the pandemic after hearing arguments against the use of untested vaccines and the very same people in support of using untested drugs. I felt my soul leave my body many times. Dark times.
- Jimmc414 3y ago> Personally, I was looking forward to never talking about this topic again. It seems like you are not alone in that sentiment. Would it be fair to call this willful blindness or something else? > My mind melted during the pandemic after hearing arguments against the use of untested vaccines and the very same people in support of using untested drugs. Can you elaborate on why you view those arguments as contradictory? They seemed to be more about informed consent than testing standards.
- SlightlyLeftPad 3y ago> It seems like you are not alone in that sentiment. Would it be fair to call this willful blindness or something else? Yes, I would definitely call it willful blindness. Fair. I can handle it now, but with all the other stress forcefully injected at the time, I couldn’t handle this debate then. > Can you elaborate on why you view those arguments as contradictory? They seemed to be more about informed consent than testing standards. The argument is almost always coupled with a complete distrust of the entire pharmaceutical industry. A variety of pills that you take that will very unlikely prevent death from covid, a use for which it was neither made for nor tested for is still made by the same untrustworthy pharmaceutical industry that makes the vaccine that injected 5G chips into my body. The cognitive dissonance presented here is pretty depressing. Edit: some good data here would be the percentage of people who initially declined to get a vaccine due to lack of testing compared to the percentage of those who are vaccinated now that it’s been proven to be effective over time. It would be interesting to understand that aspect. If that percentage of those who are vaccinated now is low I think we could infer that the issue for them, largely, was not the lack of testing.
- reify 3y agoPaxlovid Pax = noun. A tablet decorated with a sacred figure (as of Christ) and sometimes ceremonially kissed by participants at mass. A Pfizer funded study. It must be accurate and unbiased then. After a few years we will have something similar to the old SSRI story. The Research article: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors versus placebo in patients with major depressive disorder. A systematic review with meta-analysis and Trial Sequential Analysis. Just change SSRIs to Paxlovid and depressive to covid. SSRIs might have statistically significant effects on depressive symptoms, but all trials were at high risk of bias and the clinical significance seems questionable. SSRIs significantly increase the risk of both serious and non-serious adverse events. The potential small beneficial effects seem to be outweighed by harmful effects.
