Honestly one of the wildest internet things barely anyone noticed of the past decade was the small minority of cliquey early twitter adopters who had big blog followings all proudly proclaiming "Whats the big deal? I just get all my updates on twitter these days" when reader was killed. Because they all had four figure followers at the time which was top 1% of twitter and obviously were deep in the dopamine spiral of seeing that number go up and the death of RSS made it go up.
Then exactly 10 years later Elon buys Twitter and the exact same subset who are like twitter royalty by this point despite in the grand scheme of things just being a subset of geeks and tech bloggers and their cronies all have a collective freak out and bail from Twitter to Mastodon and Bluesky, proclaiming Twitter dead and expecting the same thing to happen as when they proclaimed RSS dead but this time the thing they left didn't die and now their audiences on their new platform have a fraction of the influence.
Hmmmm If only there was a completely open format free of politics and admin influence where you could carry your audience till the end of time based upon your own infrastructure..... maybe it wouldn't have a public follower count but also maybe you wouldn't lose the followers if you throw a hissy fit when the wrong person buys the system that owns your followers...
Sometimes you don't know what you had until it's gone.
