PHP: The Right Way
- lenerdenator 3y agoSomething that I remember from uni was having my intro to DBs class take place through the medium of PHP and the db connector for PostgreSQL. It was... not my favorite. I wonder if I would have liked it better if I had taken a more structured approach to learning PHP as opposed to learning it as a way to get to a database. // And they didn't even make the URL redirect to Python's home page. That was nice of 'em.
- hipadev23 3y agoThat’s crazy they’d have you use a programming language instead of a DB GUI or cli.
- zdragnar 3y agoIt's crazy that they used PHP at all, but that's just me showing my age. Back in my day, high level languages were considered "moving too fast" to be able to build a four year degree around. Instead, you had your intro course in C (or was it c++) and everything after that was lower level. There were no web tech type degrees, only computer science, with one of three focuses you could pick from along higher courses- AI (long before the current llm craze) and two others I don't recall anymore, but were more systems level type stuff. If you were lucky, I think there was a fluid dynamics modeling and visualization course that might have used python, but probably was also C.
