Depending on where you sit on the political spectrum, you may like or dislike the culture war part of things.
But unless you are mega rich, the costs are undeniably an issue. It's really not new, either. Years ago we spent a few months at an oceanfront vacation rental and talked to the property manager a bunch as he coordinated work and furniture deliveries and things. Actually, we listened more than talked, but that lead us to do some research, and we found state-funded research done at one of the "lesser" universities (UCF? FAU?) that was publicly available but clearly not intended to be widely read. It essentially concluded that the vacation rental industry was no longer a sustainable business because of the rising costs related to housing and that it only survived because of the continuous influx of northern money that didn't know any better.
The danger is that the unaffordability of Florida may become widely known. If people do some research before jumping in, they might not jump in at all. And that would be a crushing blow to the housing industry in Florida. Of course... once that all shakes out, Florida might actually be affordable again.
