Old apple varieties are fascinating, I plan on grafting multiple old species from my region onto a couple of older trees in my garden. I also experiment with grafting apples onto rowan trees, with is compatible.
- RoyalHenOil 3y agoI live on an old farm in Australia with several unknown apple varieties. The original trees were planted here in the 1850s to 1860s by French settlers. One of the most interesting ones is a small purple-ish apple that fizzes when you bite into it. (It is also exceptionally productive, bearing 2-3 times more than any of the others, and makes a very nice cider.)
