I am curious as to why a company would go through a middleman to get compute. Why not get it from AWS themselves?

- nine_zeros 3y agoConvenience of not having to manually rediscover the optimal purchase plan. Also, convenience of canceling any services in future. There is a whole industry that specializes in canceling sticky SaaS and cloud subscriptions/contracts.
- stuckkeys 3y agoI never understood this approach. I ended up cutting ties with middle man providers. They just caused delays. I ended up saving tons of money.

There are middlemen that can actually get you better prices and availability than you can get yourself, because they buy or rent in volume, and can pit the hyper scalers against each other to get better prices. If you want even a handful of A100s on GCP you need to buy reserved instances, but lots of resellers will rent them to you hourly, and they have RIs underneath.
