Articles that discuss concussions in sports while completely ignoring the dangers of sub-concussive impacts have become so rampant that I've come to suspect an active effort is underway to perpetuate the myth that concussions cause CTE.
When there are hundreds of billions of dollars at stake and when major sports can do things to control concussions, but not sub-concussive impacts, there certainly is the appearance of some controlling the narrative taking place.
From a counter point of view, if you search "connection between CTE and sub-concussive impacts", you will find article after article emphasizing that CTE in sports is caused by sub-concussive impacts and is unrelated to concussions.
For example, I just did that above search on Google and its top result says the following:
"Many people are surprised to hear that there have been cases of CTE discovered in athletes who have never been diagnosed with a concussion. This revelation has spurred some scientists to look at other types of brain trauma as a possible cause of CTE. Currently, the best available evidence suggests that subconcussive impacts, not concussions, are the driving force behind CTE."
