Chip 222 – Alternative 555. PWM Generator with Independent Frequency Control

Is the chip already available for sale somewhere, or is this paper just presenting a concept for what a replacement for the 555 timer IC could be like? What advantages would this have over a generic MCU with a fast clock, such as an Atmel/Microchip ATtiny chip?
