Former house of WWII hero (Raoul Wallenberg) may be demolished for Michigan dorm
- rmason 3y agoI consider myself a history buff yet I didn't know until this morning that Raoul Wallenberg went to the University of Michigan. It seems to me to be a blasphemy to allow this to happen. A few years ago the City of Detroit over protests allowed the boyhood home of Charles Lindberg to be torn down. As a result a lot of people didn't even know that Lindberg was from Detroit.
- bell-cot 3y agoSuggested reality check: Since the very modest house will be torn down anyway, Michigan should offer it (free, shipping not included) to any credible museum or historical group that wants it. My bet: No takers. "You should preserve history!" is cheap & performative; actual preservation is thankless hard work.
