The problem with using reddit to learn about science is that the uninformed, the crackpots, the conspiracy theorists, and the worse are often no less convincing than those who pursue an understanding of the world based on evidence and reason. reddit has made zero effort to address that problem, and if you call out dis/misinformation, you eventually get suppressed/banned. I feel bad for scientists who have no good platform where they can explain their research to the public, and I feel bad for society that we have to wade through the sewage of reddit to hear what a scientist has to say.
