Well…trucking offers an opportunity (either as drivers or owner/operators) to people in rural areas that otherwise don’t have any great way to make money (read: rural people in formerly prosperous areas). While it’s not exactly a low skill job - it’s pretty easy to start making serious money (relatively speaking) for someone that can get a CDL. Obviously these jobs won’t disappear overnight but over-the-road trucking seems like the low hanging fruit for automation and happens to be a lucrative business for the current human drivers.
