User of a Kindle Paperwhite (from 2017) here. I feel similar to your experience with the Voyage. It's a great device, but the micro-USB port and non-waterproof are the only reasons I've been wanting to upgrade. To help with the fragility of the port, I keep it on airplane mode 99% of the time, so I'm only charging about once/month. I jailbroke it years ago, along with removing the ads, and transfer all my books via calibre (after stripping the DRM of course). I also installed my own custom lock screen wallpapers.
At this point, it's on an outdated version of the OS but since I don't need to connect it, I don't bother. It reads books just fine. One day the battery will give up, and I'll look to upgrade. The kobos are on my list to look into.
