I had my own "oh shit" moment in my PhD, which I wrote about among other things, here: https://elliottslaughter.com/2024/02/legion-paper-history https://elliottslaughter.com/2024/02/legion-paper-history I'll just add one more comment: it's entirely possible to feel like everything you're doing is worthless, when in fact you are on the brink of accomplishing something worthwhile. That's not to say that every research project is worthwhile, but "how I feel right now" is maybe not the best indicator of how you are actually doing.
