At which point if “the community” consists of one guy doing everything and a couple whiners making demands, fuck it.
- resource_waste 3y agoAs someone who has a community who follows my stuff and demands more.... I somewhat get it. I became the central spot for this particular product. I get occasional emails from people saying the did this same thing, but on a smaller scale. I have scale, so I can do things much bigger than anyone else. I have a million people using this, vs a startup who has ~100. (Btw, I'm barely profitable, I was selling to frugal people...)
- kijin 3y agoWell, in this case it's even worse. The "community" here in all likelihood was overrun with sock puppets of a malicious state-level actor.
- WesolyKubeczek 3y agoI also don’t really understand the notion of a community around a fucking data compression program. “Bro, do you even compress?” Is there a community of ½" plumbing pipe enthusiasts?
- keybored 3y agoI by default distrust any statement that claims to speak on behalf of some community.
- noobermin 3y agoThis line in light of what we know now makes me think that while OP has a point about open source, this thread and others like it definitely were sockpuppets trying to goad Collin into transferring maintainership quickly.
