Lucky the XZ license switched from "Public Domain" to 0BSD in February (just before these 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 releases)!
0BSD has no clauses, but it does have this:
> IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, DIRECT, INDIRECT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER RESULTING FROM LOSS OF USE, DATA OR PROFITS, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE OR OTHER TORTIOUS ACTION, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OR PERFORMANCE OF THIS SOFTWARE.
- perbu 3y agoGross negligence and willfull misconduct cannot be waved away like this, in certain legislations, at least.
- juliusdavies 3y agoYes, but hopefully it does protect Lasse Collin.
- broadsidepicnic 3y agoFrom what?
- juliusdavies 3y agoLitigation including criminal prosecution
- rwmj 3y agoHe had nothing to do with this, no one is going to prosecute him.
- broadsidepicnic 3y agoUh what would be his charge? I cannot fathom how and based on what he would be charged. Maybe this is an american thing, but he's not an US citizen to start with
- nicce 3y agoBut Public Domain license already prevented that? At least in the most countries. But local laws goes above licenses anyway.
