The Boss Is Calling Late. Should the Law Let You Ignore It?
- rawgabbit 3y ago>Mr. Haney, a Democrat, got the idea from Australia’s new “right to disconnect” law, to be implemented later this year. It will allow workers to reject “unreasonable” professional communication outside of their regular workday. The idea originated in France and has spread in various forms to countries including Canada, Italy, Belgium and the Philippines. New York City debated a similar proposal in 2018, but didn’t adopt it.
- db48x 3y agoYou don’t need the government’s permission to ignore your boss after hours.
- uberman 3y agoTrue 100% but you might need the government to cover your back to prevent retaliation.
- db48x 3y agoIf your boss retaliates then you need a new boss. Fire that one and get another; most aren't that petty. You don't need a special law for this; unemployment benefits already exist for people who get fired without cause.
- uberman 3y agoYou and I apparently enjoy a level of job security that many do not.
