- 1oooqooq 3y agothankfully we live in the us, where reparations to native and formerly enslaved are always openly debated and agreed by everyone.
- bluescrn 3y agoA moment of of history that perhaps the west should learn from, before allowing 'culture wars' to escalate further.
- adrr 3y agoHow can you learn from the past if you censor the past?
- interludead 3y agoIt's imposible, learning from the past requires an open and honest examination of historical events
- pavlov 3y agoGermany doesn’t have a problem showing Holocaust movies, and America doesn’t have a problem showing movies about segregation and lynchings. Both kinds of movies regularly receive highest national awards like the Oscars. The West remains far from this kind of social amnesia.
- FactKnower69 3y ago>America doesn’t have a problem showing movies about segregation and lynchings >The West remains far from this kind of social amnesia. Did you forget how one of the two major American political parties has become completely obsessed in the past 5 years with trying to make it illegal to teach the history of the genocides this country has perpetrated?
- AnthonyMouse 3y agoHave people still not caught on to the con with this? Teaching the history of genocides is different than teaching them in a context of "people of European descent are uniquely evil and deserve to be punished for the historical crimes of people with the same skin color." When someone tries to teach the latter, other people sensibly object to it. But because it's politics, the team objecting to it will try to paint it as a central example of what's being taught, when it's actually an extremist position that could be righteously kicked out of the building. Then that team will have their own crackpots, some of whom are racists too. The original team then finds an instance of someone on the objecting team saying something indefensible and tries to paint that as a central example of what the other team's objections are, when it's actually an extremist position that could be righteously kicked out of the building. They're both just lying to you about their opponents while downplaying the wrongness of their own extremists, because it's politics.

- adrr 3y agoMaybe they'll ban Netflix. oh wait. On more serious note, only netflix can run it since china will punish companies for any plots that show China in a negative light. You'll never see China as antagonist in a modern movie outside of netlix. They'll go after parent companies as well.
- miohtama 3y agoNot only that but Disney movies for kids need to fulfill Chinese authority criteria https://www.outkick.com/analysis/disney-admits-theyll-continue-to-bow-to-china-on-film-censorship https://www.outkick.com/analysis/disney-admits-theyll-contin... No Tibet, etc.
- selivanovp 3y agoUnderstandable. Just another best selling book was butchered by USA filmmakers.
- proc0 3y agoAuthoritarianism is such a bummer. You can never have nice things without big bro shoving its filthy hands in it. So sad that humans are still doing this as we are entering the age of AI.
