Having used HM-10 modules for personal projects and not facing the kinds of weird issues I have with many commercial Bluetooth devices, I really don't understand why said devices are so shitty in the majority of cases. Staying paired and sending tiny amounts of data to request status or change settings shouldn't be that hard. Of course it certainly doesn't help that most mobile apps are extremely crummy.
