Tech CEOs Find Friendly Podcast Hosts Help Get Out Their Talking Points
- politelemon 3y agoWikipedia: "A journalist is a person who gathers information in the form of text, audio or pictures, processes it into a newsworthy form and disseminates it to the public" So in a way a podcast host is still a journalist, it's that the power balance and incentive between the CEO (who wants to get a message out in front of a less hostile interviewer), and the host (who would appreciate the increase in listenership) as of today is conducive for this setup. I wonder what would happen when the power balance shifts, that they would also be considered 'incisive journalists'. Indeed the article touches on this: > Part of Fridman’s draw is that he lets the interviewee talk a lot. It’s cooperative, not combative, and likely helps him land guests, but it also does his audience a disservice. Fridman didn’t respond to messages asking for comment about his podcast. It reminds me of large tech companies banning specific news sites from their shows, or large gaming companies not sending out preview copies to news sites, where the reviews in the past have been unfavourable.
