IronLev – claims to be simple, cheap, and passive magnetic levitation
- gus_massa 3y agoIt looks very suspictious. Is there a technical description? In the explanation in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHCKYJG-tII&t=60s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHCKYJG-tII&t=60s , he claims it's hanging from the upper rail insted of repealing the bottom rail. This makes a lot of sense. But in the test in the other video of "existing rails" https://youtu.be/4m6nJM8DQ4M?t=37s https://youtu.be/4m6nJM8DQ4M?t=37s there is no upper rail. Also, they claim some electronic estabilization system, but no electricity or power source. And in the first viveo, when he shows a no friction demosntration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHCKYJG-tII&t=149s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHCKYJG-tII&t=149s it slows down so much that they have to cut the take. And I'd expect a lot of eddy currents, that in some cases are bigger than friction https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddy_current#Electromagnetic_braking https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddy_current#Electromagnetic_b... This part of the wikipedia article is interesting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddy_current#Repulsive_effects_and_levitation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddy_current#Repulsive_effects... > n a varying magnetic field, the induced currents exhibit diamagnetic-like repulsion effects. A conductive object will experience a repulsion force. This can lift objects against gravity, though with continual power input to replace the energy dissipated by the eddy currents.
