I agree, but I think there should be an income cutoff, below a certain income level it's free.
Reason is there are lots of lower income folks who live top far out to use public transport or need to drive for other reasons (hotdogs or bagel cart) that this would really negatively impact.
- paulgb 3y agoThe thing about a congestion tax is that if it’s effective at getting drivers to mode shift to transit, it also makes things better for drivers who do continue to drive, since they deal with less traffic. If a large group of people is excepted from the fee, they may start to mode shift in the reverse direction because they get the benefit without the cost.
- iancmceachern 3y agoIn this case, I would say that would be good. It would be subsidizing our poorest folks, at the cost of those who can afford it.
