I know nothing about economics so please enlighten me: with the yen weakening, does it affect inflation in japan? Say 10 years ago I can have 1 nigiri for 100 yen, which was about $1 back then, does that mean I can have 1.5 nigiri now or inflation catches up and turn out I still can only buy 1 nigiri?
- jcrash 3y agoI was in Japan a few weeks ago, iirc onigiri was ~120yen at 7-11, which was less than a dollar. So yes with a dollar you could buy more than you could 10 years ago
- unmole 3y agoEven people who claim to know economics have a hard time explaining Japan (and Argentina). After decades of stagnation and deflation, Japan has only recently started to see inflation.
- MrMember 3y agoThe old joke is that there are three types of economies in the world: Japan, Argentina, and everyone else.
