I don't have a link handy, but I've seen reports that FSD/Autopilot disengages moments before an inevitable accident, allowing Tesla to claim that the systems were not engaged and imply they were not at fault. I haven't seen an investigation into whether this is true and, if so, whether the system was designed for the purpose of misleading claims.
