- fenomas 3y agoNot mentioned in TFA, but here's a fun Houdini fact I learned recently: shortly before he died, he commissioned H.P. Lovecraft and another writer to collaborate on a book debunking religious miracles. It was to be called The Cancer of Superstition, and apparently an outline and a few chapters did get written, but after his death Houdini's widow didn't want to pursue the project. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cancer_of_Superstition https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cancer_of_Superstition
- nineplay 3y agoInteresting from the wikipedia entry > Houdini's widow cancelled the project – perhaps because she was herself more inclined to believe in the reality of spiritualists phenomena than her skeptical late husband. This is a quote from author Donald Tyson but it seems unnecessarily uncharitable. She may have just not wanted something to be published under his name without him having final authority over it.
