If your backups aren't physically diverse, they aren't backups. S3 Glacier Deep Archive is 99c/TB. Just ship it.

- fragmede 3y agoWatch out for restore costs though. It only costs $0.10 and $4/month to back up 1TiB, but $100-$350 to restore it, depending on how fast you want to restore. Still, $4/mo, or $88/month for 22TB is some peace of mind. https://www.arqbackup.com/aws-glacier-pricing.html https://www.arqbackup.com/aws-glacier-pricing.html
- beacon294 3y agoHaving paid restore costs due to user error in my home, it's worth it. I'm toying with offsite HDDs in the future, but still feel that reliability is inferior.
- tredre3 3y agoThe restore costs are absolutely worth it to most people, but it's still important to point out. As a teenager I would have been perfectly capable and willing to pay 5/month to backup all my stuff. But I wouldn't have been able to afford 100-150 to restore it. So not knowing about the restoration fees would have given me a false sense of security and it might have been disastrous.

- beacon294 3y agoYes, well, $120/TB/decade if we convert it to HDD relevant units for cost comparison. About 12x the cost. Regardless, it has good reliability properties.
