I remember watching "Chat GPT-4chan" summer of 2022, and then playing around with some of the early/free online image generators (e.g. Craiyon). Early December 2022, I started playing with ChatGPT and then early 2023 with Perplexity... certainly addictive technologies, absolutely helpful.
All of this background just to say: After trying for most of 2023 to show/tell others about these free technologies, I don't really bring up "generative AI" much anymore (certainly not "potential for jobloss"). If people have questions, I'm happy to answer them... but I no longer bring up the coolest new genAI things because most people still aren't aware of what 2022 (and earlier) transformers can already do.
It's unsurprising that businesses will be massively implementing these cost-saving measures. I'm particularly excited to see how healthcare might be better-able to help more people as we all try to "just survive," often with similar symptoms and maladies. Legal access will also be greatly impacted (see US Chief Justice Roberts' 2023 "End of Year Report," which primarily focuses on LLMs enabling commoner access to the judicial systems of the world).
Hopeful for an interesting future, no doubt!
