Great article, but the final paragraph is implausible: 'And what if the government does eventually get its hands on aliens and their flying saucers? “It’s not their job [to keep it secret],” he says. “It would immediately get turned over to Nasa, and Nasa would immediately disclose it to everybody. That’s THEIR job.”'
I'm far more certain it would be ultra-top-secret, with multiple layers of "need-to-know" and elaborate diversions, and with the emergence of multiple figures jostling for power who would compartmentalize the whole operation: divide and rule.
The X-Files nailed it, as did Dark Skies.

- adrianN 3y agoMicrobes on Mars don't have the same potential for giving your country a dominating advantage for decades like an interstellar vessel with intelligent beings on it has.
- consumer451 3y agoHow exactly would the USA, or any other country, dominate these vastly more advanced beings to control them?
- adrianN 3y agoThey wouldn't, but they might have a chance for exclusive knowledge transfer giving them an enormous boost in science and technology.
- consumer451 3y agoI just don't understand why a more advanced species would want to, or allow themselves to be involved in human geopolitics.
