Scilab – numerical computation for engineers and scientists
- logtempo 3y agoDidn't known they moved from INRIA (National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology) to Dassault Systèmes
- jgtrosh 3y agoIt was a project without clear funding in INRIA, and an investor (who had previously been Airbus CEO iirc) created Scilab Enterprise and hired the engineers who'd been developing it. This helped pay the bills and get focused on reworking the software stack. They were providing paid support but that wasn't enough, so there was a series of acquisitions until, apparently, 3ds. Source: interned there sometime along the way, met some great people.
- DrNosferatu 3y agoEven if you haven’t implemented all of Matlab’s functionality and helper functions, it would really promote the broader use of Scilab if you would have more clear documentation on how to perform in Scilab the most popular Matlab tasks, using the functionality already available in Scilab. In other words, it’s straight forward to do many Signal Processing tasks in Matlab, but it was really difficult (or almost impossible) how to figure out how to perform those same tasks in Scilab. Suggestion: take popular course book(s) of Signal Processing with Matlab and reimplement all the solutions in Scilab.
- Bostonian 3y agoI believe Octave (also free and open source) is more compatible with Matlab that Scilab is. What are the advantages of Scilab over Octave? There is an ad-heavy comparison at https://www.educba.com/scilab-vs-octave/ https://www.educba.com/scilab-vs-octave/ .
