I like Kevin Mims’s posts, a great mix of nostalgia, old man grumpiness and spot on observations about media. Forget about Shatner for a sec, this article is worth looking at just for the description of watching TV in the olden times. I’m not as old as him, but mainstream TV adoption came to our country much later than the US so I have the same experience. And the mention of Horizontal Hold and Vertical Hold knobs is priceless. I remember fiddling with these with low-end or malfunctioning PC monitors well into the 90s.
