- epistasis 3y agoThe current headline is: > Stanford Math-Education Expert Has ‘Reckless Disregard for Accuracy,’ But I see > Stanford Math-Education Expert Has ‘Reckless Disregard for Accuracy,’ Complaint Alleges Though I personally agree that the "complaint alleges" may not be necessary, because I find these allegations credible to the best of my knowledge, it is only fair to acknowledge that they are allegations as far as the public is concerned at the moment. (I've been following this research not because I'm in the field, but because they have been used to deny access to algebra in SF, which is what prompted me to follow others' investigations, so I must admit to being somewhat biased against this expert's opinions)
- galdosdi 3y agoI'm OK with the headline abridgement. I don't feel it slanders the expert, since we do not see their name till after we click and after we see the full unabridged headline.
- Turing_Machine 3y agoGood point. Without the name, it's hard to see how it libels (if it's written, it's libel, not slander) the expert. I suppose it might be considered defamatory if there were only one math education expert at Stanford and everyone knew who that was, but that seems implausible.

- yowzadave 3y agoThe full title is 88 characters, and HN limits titles to 80 characters. I think the abbreviation submitted is probably the one that best captures the meaning of the original; the quote marks imply that it is an allegation.
- epistasis 3y agoGood point, I didn't count the letters!
