The problem is that the idea was "we'll build this nice thing and other people who use it en masse will also be nice and give us some money for support or just because" The reality is large places will take as much as they can and never give anything unless forced into such a deal. Open source tech is probably tainted in this regard. How many other projects have gone this route for basically the same reason? I hope this means large tech will actually contribute some money to Redis. I've used Redis for many years and hope they can make some money after giving so much away for so long.
