we moved from cloud to dedicates server because it was a huge cost savings. Our bill went from $7k/month on aws to $250/month with a fat dedi.

- mooreds 3y agoIs your traffic variable? Or is it stable?
- cranberryturkey 3y agoits pretty stable. traffic was never an issue on a dedi.
- mooreds 3y agoAh, gotcha. That's the perfect situation for moving to colocation or a dedicated server.
- silverquiet 3y agoI've basically opposed cloud moves every time it's come up, but I also fear it means my resume will be blacklisted. I'm certainly a fan of containers and IaC which run as good on dedicated gear as anywhere else at least. It's amazing how much compute/memory you can buy these days in off-lease/used servers, but new still seems like an incredible deal compared to paying every month. I get that there is also accounting trickery regarding opex/capex, but at the end of the day, it's still money going out, right?
