“the culture of Christianity” is not solely defined by evangelical Protestantism. Protestants make up 37% of the World’s Christians and, within the US at least, evangelicals make up roughly a third of US Protestants (according to Pew research). So, according to this poorly written title from NPR, “the culture of Christianity” is defined as what roughly 10% of Christianity follows. Wow. Makes the rest of the article just a little suspect…
- krapp 3y agoCulture isn't defined purely by demographic size but by the ability to spread influence which is a function of monetary and political power. Evangelicalism is the de facto culture of Christianity in the US by virtue (so to speak) of the relationship between it and the Republican Party.
