And this is why Mastodon will never become mainstream. They're just too full of themselves. If they owned Twitter instead of Musk it would be even worse off.

And this is why Mastodon will never become mainstream.
They're just too full of themselves. If they owned Twitter instead of Musk it would be even worse off.
I'm running one Pleroma instance and one Mastodon.
Pleroma is buggy but you get access to a wide range of instances and people, where Mastodon seems closed off.
I use Pleroma to discover people, then follow them on Mastodon, because on Pleroma you can't usually see all the replies to a post.
Anyhow blabbering.
Those "Flagship" instances and their censorship are the reason why Mastodon isn't taking off.
There will be something better.
- r14c 3y agoMastodon feeds the fediverse! m.s and others can and should be eclipsed by future projects, much like mastodon did to the old gnu/social network. they even changed protocols! (ostatus -> activitypub). remember, the fediverse is about as old as twitter!
- stonogo 3y agoHow is one more closed off than the other? Do they come with built-in block lists? How does this difference manifest?
- viraptor 3y agoYou can post the ai content in other places. You can already see the results of crap ai posts on Twitter - there's no popular tweet without spam generated replies these days. I'm not sure that even counts at censorship either. It's not about what you post - you just can't spam exclusively auto-generated content on that specific instance.
- phoe-krk 3y ago> And this is why Mastodon will never become mainstream. If mainstream means being exposed to targeted ads unfiltered AI spam, then the above is a feature, not a bug. You say this as if "becoming mainstream" is a compliment, with which I completely disagree.
