- jtriangle 3y agoBecause they're cool, and cool gets funded.
- famouswaffles 3y agoBecause most environments we want robots to help out in are built for the human form factor.
- T-A 3y agoThe environments where people work and live are designed for humans, so the humanoid form is a reasonable default choice when designing a general-purpose machine meant to operate in those environments.
- singularity2001 3y agoalso we have the most training data for this form factor, and the best intuition / empathy when debugging them although bias and wrong expectations might come as a hindrance
- MichaelMug 3y ago> Why is there so much focus on humanoids? This always irked me about sci-fi and robotics in general. It’s been demonstrated by Boston Dynamics and others that different forms are better like forms based on dogs and insects, and also no need for artificial lighting with other types of sensors available. For example, if a factory was staffed with robots it’s only illuminated for the humans and maybe cameras.
