I tried it and failed. I managed to convince most of the people I care about to install Signal, but not all. Also, where I live it's used for many day to day things like bookings. What I have ended up doing is bridging WhatsApp to Matrix, and I only interact with the WhatsApp network through my Matrix client (schildi chat). I'd love to properly leave WhatsApp, as I think giving a for profit company the monopoly of all our non-in-person communications, which is what has happened in my country, can only bring bad things to society. But for now, it stays mission impossible. I hope the DMA can at least give me the ability to interact with businesses from outside WhatsApp
