Note: 'Nonce' is British slang for paedophile, though did you mean 'nonsense'?
- chownie 3y agoNo, "nonce" meaning paedophile is very modern. Until the 1970s nonce meant "appears only once" and referred to figures and terms which never found common use after being coined.
- nkurz 3y agoNo, as 'chownie' says, I was using it in it's original technical sense of a word that is created for the occasion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonce_word https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonce_word Nonce is also used in cryptography for a number that is arbitrary and only used once: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographic_nonce https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographic_nonce
