A lot of what local news did - reporting on what is happening locally - is reported more than ever. It’s just done by citizens taking videos and posting them online, where they disseminate more widely than ever before. I see local government budget reports posted on my city’s subreddit where people dissect and debate them, with detailed understanding of local politicians’ positions. I don’t see how the demise of local newspapers is ruining society. They are just an anachronism.
