- FrustratedMonky 3y agoWho is 'them' here? Seems like anytime I hear people use 'They', 'Them' as some broad category of some secret organization driving things. It is increasingly hard to decipher what the 'they/them' is referring to? Is it Q-anon? Deep Christian State? 'They' are doing this to 'Us'. But can never really pin it down? Every conspiracy is always shifting to a new 'They'.
- drewcoo 3y ago> Who is 'them' here? If you can't tell, you're not part of the conversation. If you're (much more likely) trying to frame the poster as some kind of conspiracy theorist . . . there's a different STFU for that one.
- blovescoffee 3y agoI feel like in this instance “them” is pretty clearly news agencies
- FrustratedMonky 3y agoYes. Addressed later From other post. Thought on re-reading OP comment, 'them' could just refer to generic 'media', and not be right/left. It shows how even language is getting warped. Frequently right leaning news uses 'They' for every type of boogie man. So if a comment has 'They' it sounds right leaning.
- geraneum 3y agoIt doesn’t really matter. It’s fluid and redefined as needed.
- RcouF1uZ4gsC 3y agoThere is no conspiratorial “them”. The pronoun just refers to the people in the news business.
- CPLX 3y agoThis comment should not be downvoted it is both factually accurate and insightful.
- FrustratedMonky 3y ago'insightful' is a bit of a stretch. It is only factual in that news/media desire conflict in order to gain attention and sales. Conflict is part of the business model. But, both ways. Fox wants to foment conflict as much as CNN. But the comment is staged as one directional, 'If Trump Wins', then 'They', will be up in arms to write stories about it. As if the reporting on the right is 'holier', more 'altruistic'. This is completely false. Edit: Thought on re-reading OP comment, 'them' could just refer to generic 'media', and not be right/left. It shows how even language is getting warped. Frequently right leaning news uses 'They' for every type of boogie man. So if a comment has 'They' it sounds right leaning.
- CPLX 3y agoI don’t see it as controversial at all. The major news media organizations were able to capitalize and make more money due to increased demand for content involving Trump from both those who support and oppose him. It’s just a mathematical fact. Many news organizations report revenue and viewership figures that bear this out.
