I'm not a scientist and I don't do research on diseases. Some people, maybe the very small minority, have had bad long term symptoms in response to covid. There was a science education youtuber called Physics Girl who has been bedridden for the past 1-1.5 years as far as I'm aware. I bring that up because her life has been made public.
Do people have reactions like that to the flu? Or is this about the cases we choose to present and make visible? Is it misrepresentation?
It seems that some people are highly vulnerable. How do we deal with that? Or do we just have to accept it?
- sp332 3y agoPeople do have bad reactions to the flu. I think it's time to stop downplaying those cases, but the Guardian thinks we should downplay everything.
- cpncrunch 3y agoYes. People have had cfs or me since long before covid. I had it 25 yr ago. Its nothing new, but is fairly rare.
- tuatoru 3y ago* Chronic fatigue syndrome and myalgic encephalomyelitis, for those not familiar with the abbreviations. 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myalgic_encephalomyelitis/chronic_fatigue_syndrome https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myalgic_encephalomyelitis/chro...
- zero-sharp 3y agoNo doubt CFS existed before covid. But the question is: does the flu trigger CFS in people not previously suffering from the condition?
- cpncrunch 3y agoYes. Mono is the main trigger, but also q fever, flu, colds and life stress. Stress has also been shown to be a factor in long covid.
