Given it's illegal to detain someone as outlined in the article (with some exceptions that don't apply here), is it fine to just barge through the exits and trigger the alarm and keep on moving? I would certainly not comply with a human asking to see my receipt as that's also not legally required.
Even if that's legal for me to do, I don't want to get banned from stores...
There's just no way I'm letting them try to detain me after I've already paid for my goods. Terrible. Can't believe some non-Loblaws stores even lock the gates until receipts are scanned. Sounds like a major fire hazard.
- bluefirebrand 3y agoThe worst part is that you can't even leave the store without buying anything, without having to call security over to get them to open the receipt gate for you The people in charge of these moves need a hard kick in the ass
- wahnfrieden 3y agoI would just hop the gate in that case. Unbelievable that they would lock gates. That's going to get people killed. If it's not locked, just trigger the alarm.
- rav_kr 3y agoAs for myself, sometimes I just "barge through the exits and trigger the alarm and keep on moving". Never have been stopped by anyone.
- Brian_K_White 3y agoI never stop when a stores exit alarm goes off. I know I didn't steal anything. If they don't know that because some corporate jerks don't have enough faith in their underpaid and underpopulated staff, that's neither my fault nor my problem. Make an actual accusation and be ready to be right about it, or don't, but I'm not granting that stupid noisemaker a second of validity or respect.
