Ask HN: Why are there so many scam ads on X/Twitter?
- gigatexal 3y agoHe's gotta make back that 44B somehow.

- pfdietz 3y agoAt least he isn't carrying those annoying Hydrogen Peroxide for ED ads on YouTube.
- eva_cananim 3y agoFrom using a vpn, I find that youtube adverts are different between countries. I find the adverts aimed at Panama to be least displeasing, they get adverts for South American soft drinks that I'v not heard of before and real estate agents that talk rapidly in Spanish. Personally, I find adverts in a language I don't understand at all to be more tolerable. I figure that I'm being nice by not using an advert blocker.
- wmf 3y agoQuality advertisers have fled so what you're seeing is what's left.
- al_borland 3y agoYou’d think at some point they’d simply abandon the advertising model, if it isn’t viable with the direction the platform is going.
- ActorNightly 3y agoTwitter is basically still where a lot of people hang out. Its not going away any time soon.
- fuzzfactor 3y agoWell maybe the old bank robber who justified his MO "because that's where the money is", was just as honest. Maybe scamming twitterers is lucrative "because that's where the gullible consumers are".
- ushakov 3y agoMy conspiracy theory is that Musk is using garbage ads so people subscribe to hide them
- RGamma 3y agoMaybe it reflects on the crowd still (thought to be) using formerly Twitter?
- warrenm 3y agoIt's not so much there are "scam ads on X/Twitter" ... they are EVERYWHERE! My wife runs a Facebook page that got targeted today by a newly-minted 'account' and 'page' claiming DMCA violations
