Thoughts on the UX of news dot Y Combinator
I wanted to know what the general consensus was about the ask.ycombinator user experience being neglected or bare bones when compared to the main website..
I understand that both websites have different target audiences, but I'm sure we could all appreciate a better UI.
What design changes would you like to see on this website (if any) or how do you generally feel about it's current state? Thank you to anyone who takes the time to answer

Which secondary website are you referring to? some minor nitpicks: * the [-] thread collapse target is too small, and its position isn't constant. i would prefer the vertical bars that are present throughout the entire comment chain (a la New Reddit)[https://i.imgur.com/MjrSXYX.png https://i.imgur.com/MjrSXYX.png]. * the search bar being at the bottom
- rossdavidh 3y ago"...I'm sure we could all appreciate a better UI." Absolutely not. One of the best things about HN is the barebones UI. I would be very annoyed if it got a more "modern", i.e. bloated and distracting, interface.
- bhaney 3y agoHN's UI is widely considered to be one of the last major bastions of simple and unintrusive design. Most people here strongly prefer it over the style of ycombinator's marketing pages, are very protective of it, and don't consider it to be "neglected" at all.
- eep_social 3y agoTodays lesson is that you are not (your|the) user. If you want flash, glitz, and 5mb of dogshit javascript head on over to ~anywhere else on the www.
- bigragadesigns 3y agoNoted. There's a way, however, of voicing your opinions without using foul language. Thanks for your feedback
- RattlesnakeJake 3y agohttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39729057 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39729057 is my answer. HN is the one website where I don't have to wait 10-20 seconds for the content to load.
- Terr_ 3y agoSimple is fine, I just want (A) dark mode and (B) the downvote button to not be so close to the upvote button. Having as much text loaded at once is important, because it means I can do a browser text search for anyone already discussing something.
