PipeWire camera handling is now happening
- jauntywundrkind 3y agoI can't find the comment, but a PipeWire dev mentioned in the gitlab comments a bit back that a lot of pipewire's advancement towards video (beyond the basics, which are there!) is gated around getting Vulkan support into a good spot, as that's how they intend to do a lot of the video conversion & processing. Ah, here it is; talking rtp specifically but feels like a general need here, > We're not into RTP video yet, mostly because Vulkan conversion stuff is still WIP. Without scaling/format conversion it's quite hard to play around with video https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/3459#note_2056237 https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/34... Vulkan converters/processors landed early February, which is great news towards that end. Video was also mentioned as a future focus by author Wim Taymams in his post 1.0 FOSDEM talk, https://www.phoronix.com/news/PipeWire-Plans-2024 https://www.phoronix.com/news/PipeWire-Plans-2024 Really really cool days coming where audio & video are super super malleable/pluggable and fast subsystems on Linux. Also cool seeing excitement around networked audio standards kicking up; there's been good progress & clear interest in AES67 & other related networked av items (SMPTE-2110 av, NMOS discovery/management).
