On a Macro level, I've been exploring M-DISC as a solution to archiving my own media which is irreplaceable. (Documents, photos, videos, etc.)
It seems like M-DISCs are getting harder to buy for some reason.
- wkat4242 3y agoIt's because they're so expensive and don't offer a lot of storage for modern standards. People that want to store a little use cloud or other stuff like Flash. Of course that degrades over time but for a few bucks you have multiple. People that want to store a lot use tape. There isn't really much room in between.

- wkat4242 3y agoYeah that's what I do but it's a lot lot higher capacity than M-DISK. I have almost 100TB. An M-DISK is 50GB max or 100 Dual-Layer (with more worry about longevity). I'd need 1000 of the 100's to store all my stuff :) So I see this more as a different niche.
- RajT88 3y agoDifferent niche for sure. You probably do not need to store 100tb of data for 30+ years. I have ~50tb of storage at home but really probably only 50gb of it I need to store for that long, and that is being generous.
