This leaves me screwed when I lost my phone in a cab [0], or when normal people irrevocably lose / break their phone or SIM card
[0] ...on Saturday night of a long weekend, in a country I was leaving on Sunday, and that cab regulations only required lost items be turned in weekdays/within 48 hours
- Terr_ 3y agoYeah, case 3 still sucks, but it's marginally-better than having everyone go through it.
- gambiting 3y agoCan I just point out that the "instant replacement with esim" is a very new phenomenon, if I lost my regular SIM(or my phone) I'd have to go to an actual physical location for my provider and show them my ID before they issue me a replacement. The fact that with esims you can just skip that identification step or any kind of waiting period is bananas, because it enables this kind of fraud as described here. I understand the instant replacement helps with the cases you describe, but like......I'm not sure the trade off is worth it.
