Spotify says its iPhone app updates in the EU are getting held up by Apple
- sircastor 3y agoI show up for Apple a lot here. It's unpopular but I have felt that a lot of what they do - if not justified - is at least their choice to make. Apple's actions recently are hard to defend, and look like increasingly desperate efforts to simply ignore laws that they don't like. It's not a good look. I really wish they would aggressively embrace compliance. Make the experience for developers on the App store so good that it's not worth it to go elsewhere - rather than making the experience so bad for alternate marketplaces that developers can't reasonably make the choice. And the store process should be so good that going off to a website to buy something even if it does cost a little more should be worth it. This delaying of reviews, and arbitrary canceling of developer accounts is embarrassing.
- bradhe 3y agoAm I the only one that finds the quality of Spotify’s apps absolutely horrible? The iOS and desktop apps are terrible but for different reasons. Also they haven’t changed significantly in ages so it’s not as if there’s been a bunch of churn… I’ll regularly have unexplained networking issues in the Spotify iOS app. And don’t even get me started on the experience of trying to listen to downloaded content when you have an active (according to the OS) data link…
- viraptor 3y agoYes and same for the web app. They don't really care about quality it seems. You can see the issues in many other processes to: For example try to report an album which got merged into the wrong artist. I've tried it many times and it's both hard to do and ignored every time.
- tim1994 3y agoThe Android App as well. I have a slightly older phone (Fairphone 3+) and it takes 10-15s for a song to start playing after tapping on it. Even if it's offline available. Didn't use to be that way. Also the app is basically the opposite of offline-first. Terrible UX.
- georgel 3y agoI had been a paying customer since the month it came to the USA and used the app, desktop client, and integrations in other products. The old app and desktop was better, and the apps feature they had was really useful. I moved on to Apple Music last year.
- tmaly 3y agoI have used Spotify app on iPhone with no issues. Is it just poor network or is it really the app?
- piva00 3y agoiOS doesn't provide a reliable way to check for connectivity, all apps suffer from that.
- extraduder_ire 3y agoI wonder if it would be a good idea to push two more updates for review, one removing the notice about paying outside the appstore, and another re-adding it. I assume the employees reviewing have been given a strategy to follow, but it would be pretty damning if the version without the pricing info got through.
