OpenAI has solved the XY problem once and for all
- bubblyworld 3y agoWell, that last one is basically correct: an odd prime p is a sum of two squares iff p%4==1
- seeknotfind 3y agoGreat article. Really great article. After asking ChatGPT to get the last 3 characters of a file name, and then asking why I wanted to do that: > You're likely interested in extracting the file extension from the file name, as file extensions often provide information about the type or format of the file. So these AI are reinforced to be obedient, but they might still know your mistakes. Though this isn't a particularly good answer either.
- reaperman 3y agoI do find ChatGPT-4 does a semi-reasonable job of guessing why I might be asking something basic and trying to anticipate major "head-desk" errors. We've come a long way from Codex. It's still not good, but it saves me a lot of time typing boilerplate for simple but long functions. It saves me TONS of time debugging Java errors. Anything complex I have to do by hand, and it's bad at application-wide refactoring of class/method hierarchies, and it's bad at general architecture. But it's 80% great for "wtf caused this compiler/runtime error" and spewing out boilerplate that I still have to double-check but I can double-check it super fast and almost always ask ChatGPT to fix things that I notice.
- danlugo92 3y ago> It saves me TONS of time debugging Java errors How exactly may I ask...?
- reaperman 3y agoI’m new to enterprise Java with Spring Boot, coming from a deep background in embedded C, windows C++ and ML Ops Python. I just copy/paste a bunch of the code with any class files that I think might be relevant along with the Run output containing the error and 80% of the time it pinpoints the error and suggests an array of valid solutions.
