Facebook Messenger and Meta Pay are used to buy child sexual abuse material
- salawat 3y agoPeople need to realize something. If you can send a signal to communicate over it, or send a payment via it, it will be adapted to distribute CSAM. No exceptions. All this is is trying to get hooks in to surveil everything.
- consf 3y agoBut trying to minimize the opportunities for such crimes is a good idea, in my opinion
- Manuel_D 3y agoIt's hard to minimize the opportunity. It is more feasible to detect and respond when people take that opportunity and transmit abusive material. Which Meta is doing, and investing a lot of resources into it's CSAM detection infrastructure. People criticize Meta when they see statistic like "over 90% of detected illegal content comes from Meta" when the irony is that this is because Meta is one of the best at detecting illegal content.
- candiodari 3y agoThere needs to be a balance though. You could say the same about money, after all. It is used in probably every transaction involving CSAM. That doesn't mean the FED (and ECB, and ...) are to blame. Nor does it mean that the FED needs to start sabotaging money to make it impossible. It there is a very low-impact way to do that, fine. If there is a high impact proposal ... we need to be more careful.
- jevoten 3y agoI thought The Guardian was against fascism, yet here they are pushing for corporations to act like the police. Or even more like the police, beyond keeping IP logs, message histories, transaction histories, and employing 15,000 workers to monitor their users.
